As a young girl I would lasso my skipping rope around the branches of my favourite trees. This was the best way I could figure to give them a hug. I would read dictionaries and guess at a word’s meaning before revealing its definition. These are some of my most vivid childhood memories and I believe these early interests in nature and words were foundational to who I would become.
